Words from the Heart
I came to Family Promise of Roane County at, what I thought, was the worst time of my life as a parent. My
family had just lost our home after loosing my job. When we first arrived, I was completely terrified. I had
three small children and everything I had heard in the past about “homeless shelters” had me mortally terrified.
I knew immediately Family Promise was nothing like I’d heard before. The director welcomed us in
with a warm smile and the day center had a home like feeling. There were toys and a tv to entertain the kiddos
while I did the initial paperwork to come into the program, and it was the same place we got to spend our days
when I wasn’t at work.
